The Jim Williams Follow & Fight Memorial Scholarship will reward the efforts of a student who has demonstrated courage and developed the determination to persevere.

Having received a diagnosis of terminal melanoma in April 2012, Jim claimed the life motto Follow & Fight. His prognosis of three to six months to live turned into a courageous battle that lasted five years. Jim passed away on May 1, 2017.

Jim grew up in Amory and graduated from Amory High School in 1988 where he was a National Honor Society recipient, a Golden Panther, and a football, basketball, and baseball star athlete. Jim attended Itawamba Community College, earned a college football scholarship, graduated with honors, and received his B.S. in Exercise Physiology from The University of Southern Mississippi. He then graduated Cum Laude from The University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Physical Therapy in 1994. In the fall of 2012, Jim was honored when the street between Amory High School’s football and baseball fields was named in his honor, “Jim Williams Drive.”

Everyone experiences adversity at some point in life, and Jim’s journey represents the resolve to persist through circumstances beyond anyone’s control. His legacy is one of faith and perseverance as he lived to follow and fight. Jim’s devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him great peace as he wrote his own obituary.

May Jim’s influence bless you with an attitude of hope, love, and encouragement throughout life’s challenges.
