Northeast Mississippi Youth Foundation Awards Grants (click here)

The Northeast Mississippi Youth Foundation (NEMYF) is a youth-directed foundation established by CREATE Foundation in 2001 to offer 11th and 12th graders in Northeast Mississippi leadership opportunities and the chance to learn about philanthropy and community involvement. NEMYF is a thriving youth organization that encourages young people to make a difference in the lives of others. This year's 48 selected board Members from 13 counties attended our first board meeting in August 2009 at CREATE, followed by a retreat at Crow's Neck Environmental Center in September. Following the retreat, NEMYF has met the third Sunday of each month throughout the school year.

Board members raise money each year for our endowment fund and then donate 5% of the endowment balance to organizations in our 13-county region. Since NEMYF was established, the members have built the endowment fund to $56,220 as of March 31 and have given out almost $16,500 in grants in our communities. We set a fundraising goal for this school year at $9,000 and have raised over 86% of our goal. At our March meeting, the board nominated nonprofit organizations for grants and decided to disburse $2,995 from our fund to nine (9) organizations and programs serving NE Mississippi youth and children.
